PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

(Graduation, 1994 – 1995)

Graduations are generally regarded as appropriate occasions for reflection, self-evaluation, and goal setting. This, our first, also provides us with a special opportunity to congratulate the graduating class as well as to thank all those who have helped to make this day possible.

In the fall of 1994, Career Marketplace Canada created First Canadian Nanny College as a major strategy toward improving the in-home child care system in this country.   The school was the result of the vision of its founder and the coordinated efforts and positive actions of certain Governmental agencies, local early childhood educators and early childhood organizations.   Many committed parents gave their support to the success of the program:

Human Resources Canada in co-operation with Alberta Family and Social Services were responsible for funding the training for the students.   Many organizations and parents have opened their doors to the students for their practical training.   Participating organizations include: The Lethbridge Regional Hospital; the YMCA; the YWCA; St. Mary's, St.Pauls, Mike Mountain Horse, and Nicholas Sheran Elementary Schools; New Horizon Nursery School; Aslan Day Care; Charis Community Day Care; First Steps Day Care, and Sunshine Children's Services.   Committed parents include: Mrs. Lorna Beanblossom; Dr. Pamela Gale, and Dr. Larry Spitzke.   Workshops were facilitated by Revenue Canada Taxation, the Alberta Opportunity Company, Alberta Government Child Day Care Licensing office, and by Dr. G.S Babich.

We would like to give special thanks to Mr. Robert Rodzinyak, Mrs. Mary-Lyn Beattie, Dr. & Mrs. G.S Babich, Mrs. Joyce Engel, Drs. Steven and Shelly Wismath, Dr. Gaston Renaud, Dr. Ian & Mrs. Shelley Gellatly, and Mr. Claude Baker (Sr.).   These individuals have all worked to make this dream become a reality.   Mrs. Phyllis Daychief, Mrs. Laura Korbet, and Mr. David Roberts, we wish to congratulate you for the creditable work of the school.   You may rest secure in the knowledge that your work has not been in vain.

The Hon. Mike Cardinal expresses his regrets:   Due to a commitment to his constituency, he is unable to join in the celebration; however, he wishes us all, every success.

To you graduates, it is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you, SUCCESS.   Your year of study and commitment have brought you to the place where you will now enter the world of work as Certified, Child Care Workers.   I would like to remind you that deep responsibility for continued success lies on your shoulders.   I implore you to think of the values for which the school was established, and hope that you will strive to build a greater Nation through your efforts to educate Canada’s young. This is a duty to which you have expressed a calling, and one to which you must commit your energies.   KEEP THE VISION ALIVE!

May God bless this school in its endeavours and may it ever remain a leader for child care advancement in Canada.

Hazel-Ann Williams-Baker,
Founder & President
