GOVERNOR’S GENERAL WIVES TEA PARTY

Three Prominent Vincentian Women who served in public office were honored here last weekend.

On Saturday May 11th, a tea party in honor of Lady Esther Jack, widow of the late Sir. David Jack, Lady Gloria Antrobus, widow of the late Sir. Charles Antrobus and Mrs. Lucy-Ann Cato wife of this country’s first Prime Minister, the late Hon. Milton Cato was held under the patronage of Mrs. Eloise Gonsalves at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Old Montrose.

Mrs. Gonsalves in her brief remarks commended the ladies for the advisory and supportive role they gave to their husbands while they served in public office.

Such contributions, she says, contribute to the success of their husbands during their tenure in public office.

Lady Gloria Antrobus, while speaking on the behalf of the honorees expressed her appreciation for the efforts of Mrs. Gonsalves to bestow honor on her and the two other ladies.

Lady Gonsalves noted that the varying importance of women’s contribution to the development of this country is often unrecognized.

The ladies were presented with Bouquets of flowers as a token of appreciation for their contribution.

The honored guest at Saturday’s tea party included Taiwanese Ambassador to this country Her Excellency Elizabeth Chu, Lady Ballantyne, wife of this country’s Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, Ministers Hon. Girlyn Miguel and Rene Baptiste, other government officials and specially invited guest including representatives from the Catholic community.

Cultural performances, as part of the evening’s proceedings, came from Kiokya Cruickshank, the New Generation Gospel Band, Poetry from Lafayette Johnson-James and Michael Peters, dance performances by Norlan Jackson, the Belly Dancers and the Avenue Dancers.
