The First Epistle of Paul The Apostle to
Timothy

Paul an Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God

Chapter 1

  1. Paul an Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Saviour and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope,
  2. To Timothy, my true son in the faith  (Titus 1:4): Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.  (Gal. 1:3)
  3. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia - - remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine,  (Acts 20:1;   Gal. 1:6-7)
  4. nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.  (Titus 1:14)
  5. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, (Rom. 12:9;   Eph. 6:24)
  6. from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk,  (1 Tim. 6:4;   1 Tim. 6:20)
  7. desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.  (Job 38:2)
  8. And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.
  9. although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.  (Ps. 68:18)
  10. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.  (Rom. 5:20;   2 Tim. 1:13;   2 Tim. 2:22)
  11. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.  (Is. 53:5;   Matt. 1:21;   Matt. 9:13;   2 Tim. 2:11)
  12. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.  (Ps. 32:6)
  13. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honour and glory forever and ever.  Amen.   (Psalm 145:13)
  14. This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
  15. having faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,
  16. of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.  (Acts 13:45)

Chapter 2

  1. You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  (1 Tim. 1:2;   Eph. 6:10)
  2. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.  (John 14:6;   1 Cor. 9:25)
  3. Therefore I desire that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;  (Ps. 134:2;   Luke 23:34;   John 4:21)

  8. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.  (Prov. 3:16;   Prov. 19:23;   Ps. 37:9;   1 Cor. 8:8;   Matt. 6:33)   *!*

Chapter 5

  1. Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine.  (1 Thess. 2:6)
  2. For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it threads out the grain," and, "The labourer is worthy of his wages."  (Deut. 25:4;   Luke 10:7)
  3. Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from tow or three witnesses.  (Deut. 19:15)
  4. Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.
  5. I charge you before god and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing with partiality.
  6. Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure.  (Ps. 50:18;   Eph. 5:7)
  7. No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.
  8. Some men's sins are clearly evident, preceding them to judgement, but those of some men follow later.  (Gal. 5:19-21)
  9. Likewise, the good works of some are clearly evident, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.

Chapter 6

  1. Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.
  2. And those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren, but rather serve them because those who are benefited are believers and beloved.  Teach and exhort these things.
  3. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.  (Prov. 28:20)
  4. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  (Prov. 1:19)
  5. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
  6. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
  7. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,  (John 18:36 & 37)
  8. that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing,
  9. which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
  10. who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honour and everlasting power.  Amen.  (Job 37:23;   John 6:46)
