2 John   3 John

Chapter 1

  1. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the word of life  -   (John 1:1;   John 1:14;   John 20:27;   2 Pet. 1:16;   Luke 24:39)
  2. the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us  -
  3. that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.  (John 17:22;   1 Cor. 1:9)
  4. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
  5. This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Chapter 2

  1. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.
By this we know that we are in Him.  (John 13:35;   John 14:21)
  2. I have written to you, fathers,
because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
and you have overcome the wicked one.  (John 15:7;   Eph. 6:10)
  3. Do not love the world or the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
      (Romans 12:2;   James 4:4)
  4. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.  (Deut. 13:13;   Matt. 24:24;   John 13:21;   1 Cor. 11:19)
  5. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.  (John 5:23;   John 15:23)
  6. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.  (Jer. 31:33;   John 14:16)
  7. And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.  (1 John 3:21;   1 John 4:17;   1 John 5:14)
  8. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.  (John 17:12;   Acts 22:14;   1 John 3:7;   1 John 3:10)

  9.

Chapter 3

  1. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!  Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
  2. Beloved, we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.   (1 Cor. 13:12;   Phil. 3:21)
  3. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just a He is pure.  (1 John 4:17)
  4. Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.  (Rom. 4:15;   1 John 5:17)
  5. * Little children, let no one deceive you.
He who practices righteousness is righteous,
    just as He is righteous.
     (1 John 2:29)
  6. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.  For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.  (Matt. 13:38;   Luke 10:18)
  7. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.  (John 1:3;   John 3:3;   1 Pet. 1:23)
  8. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest:  Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, not is he who does not love his brother.  (1 John 2:29)
  9. * For this is the message that you heard from the beginning,
that we should love one another,
     (John 13:34;   John 15:12)
  10. not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother.  And why did he murder him?  Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.  (Prov. 27:4;   Prov. 29:10)
  11. Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.  (John 15:18)
  12. * We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren.  He who does not love his brother abides in death.
  13. Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.  (Matt. 5:21;   Gal. 5:20&21)
  14. * By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.  And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  (John 15:13)
  15. * But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?  (Deut. 15:7)
  16. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.  (1 John 2:28;   1 John 5:14)
  17. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.  (Ps. 34:15;   John 8:29)
  18. And this is His commandment:  that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.  (Matt. 22:39;   John 6:29)
  19. Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.  And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.  (John 6:56;   John 14:23;   1 John 4:16)

Chapter 4

  1. They are of the world.  Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.
    (John 3:31;   John 8:23;   John 15:19;   John 17:14)
  2. We are of God.  He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us.  By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.  (John 8:47;   1 Cor. 2:12-14)
  3. No one has seen God at any time.  If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
    (John 1:18;   John 5:37)
  4. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Saviour of the world.  (John 4:42)
  5. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
  6. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us.
          God is love,
and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
     (John 6:56;   John 14:23;   1 John 3:24)   *!*
  7. Love has been perfected among us in this:  that we may have boldness in the day of judgement; because as He is , so are we in this world.  (1 John 2:28;   1 John 3:3)
    1.

    Chapter 5

  1. Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.  (1 John 2:22;   _4:2;   _4:15)
  2. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.  (John 15:10)
  3. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.  And His commandments are not burdensome.
    (Matt. 11:30;   John 14:15)
  4. For whatever is born of God overcomes this world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world -- our faith.
    (John 16:33;   1 Corinthians 15:57;   Eph. 6:16)
  5. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
  6. This is He who came by water and blood - Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood.  And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.  (John 14:17;   John 19:34&35)
  7. For there are three who bear witness in heaven:  The Father, The word, and The Holy Spirit; all these three are one.  (John 10:30)
  8. And there are three that bear witness on earth:  the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.  (John 15:26)
  9. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of  God which He has testified of His Son.  (Matt. 3:16&17;   John 5:34;   John 5:37)
  10. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.  (John 3:33)
  11. And this the testimony:  that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
  12. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  (1 John 2:28;   1 John 3:21)
  13. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.  (1 Kin. 3:12)
  14. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.  (1 John 3:4)
  15. We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.  (John 17:15)
  16. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.  (John 17:9)
  17. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God and eternal life.  (1 John 4:2)
  18. Little children, keep yourselves from idols.  Amen.
