I Samuel 2

  1. And Hannah prayed and said:  (Phil. 4:6)
"My heart rejoices in the Lord;  (Luke 1:46-55)  my horn is exalted in the Lord.  (Ps. 75:10;   Ps. 89:17;   Ps. 89:24)  I smile at my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.
    1. "There is none holy like the Lord,  (Ex. 15:11)  for there is none besides You,  (Deut. 4:35) nor is there any rock like our God.  (Deut. 32:4;   Deut. 32:30&31;   Ps. 18:31)
    1. "Talk no more so very proudly; let no arrogance come from your mouth, for the Lord is the God of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed.  (Ps. 17:10;   Ps. 75:4;   Ps. 94:4;   1 Sam. 16:7)
    1. "The bows of the mighty men are broken,  (Ps. 37:15;   Ps. 46:9)  and those who stumbled are girded with strength.
    1. Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, and those who were hungry have ceased to hunger.  Even the barren has borne seven, and she who has many children has become feeble.  (Ps. 113:9;   Is. 54:1)
    1. "The Lord kills and makes alive; He rings down to the grave and brings up.  (Deut 32:39;   Job 5:18)
    1. The Lord makes poor and makes rich;  (Deut. 8:17&18;   Ps. 75:7)  He brings low and lifts up.
    1. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap,  (Luke 1:52)  to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory.  (Job 5:15&16;   Job 36:7)
    1. He will guard the feet of His saints (1 Pet. 1:5), but the wicked shall be silent in darkness.  (Prov. 2:8;   Rom. 3:9)  "For by strength no man shall prevail."
  2. Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.  (Ex. 38:8)
  3. So he said to them, "Why do you do such things?  For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people.
  4. "No, my sons!  For it is not a good report that I hear.  You make the Lord's people transgress.
  5. "If one man sins against another, God will judge him.  But if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?"  Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the Lord desired to kill them.  (Num. 15:30;   Joshua 11:20;   Job 9:33)
  6. "Therefore the Lord God of Israel says;  'I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever;' but now the Lord says;  'Far be it from Me; for those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.  (Ex. 29:9;   Jer. 18:9;   Prov. 4:8)
