Luke 23

  1. "I will therefore chastise Him and release Him"  (John 19:1)
  2. (for it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast).  (John 18:39)
  3. And they all cried out at once, saying, "Away with this Man, and release to us Barabas" --  (Isaiah 53:3;   Acts 3:13-15)
  4. who has been thrown into prison for a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder.
  5. Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them.
  6. But they shouted, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!"
  7. And he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has He done?  I have found no reason for death in Him.  I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go."
  8. But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified.  And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed.
  9. So Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested.
  10. And he released to them the one they requested, who for insurrection and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.  (Isaiah 53:8;   John 18:39)
  11. Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."  And they divide His garments and cast lots.  (Matt. 27:35;   John 19:23;   Acts 3:17;   1 Cor. 4:12)
  12. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"  that is,  "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"  (Psalm 22:1;   Matt. 27:50;   Heb. 5:7)
